Looking for Beta Readers

CLOSED

I thought it was time for another book update. I’ve done some preliminary edits, and I’m going to be looking for beta readers very soon. If you’re interested in beta reading Vampire The Begotten, head over to my Contact Page and send me a message. Email addresses submitted through my contact form will only be used to communicate about beta reading and are separate from the mailing list.

Keep in mind that I’m not going to send out the entire manuscript. The beta reader will be allowed to see a few chapters, and then will be expected to offer feedback. If everything goes well, he or she can read another few chapters and offer more feedback.

Ideally, I would like to establish a long-term beta-reading partnership with a few people since I’m looking at creating a series. I am open to beta reading in exchange if your genre is similar to mine, or if your story is fantasy. I’ve stated it in several places on my site, but I do not like romance as a genre, or anything similar.

Please don’t volunteer if supernatural horror isn’t to your liking. The book is about vampires, and told from their perspective. There are moments of gore and body horror, but the theme is primarily psychological in nature. Here’s the blurb and a sample from chapter 22, just so you know what you’re in for if you think you might be interested.

He looked up at the sky through the hole in the ceiling, the floor above, and the roof. A cloud drifted in front of the crescent moon, casting a shadow across the already darkened ground. He closed his eyes and inhaled a deep, calming breath, willing help to arrive soon. A few moments passed, quiet all but for the continued splattering from the broken pipe. A slight sound of rustling fabric came from behind and he stiffened. Slowly, he turned his head.

The mangled female vampire was sitting up, the silver blanket lying against the raw flesh of her left hip. The burns were worse than he realized, extending from mid-thigh all the way up to her face and scalp. One pointed ear stuck out from underneath matted, dirty white hair on the unburned side of her face, but the other ear was melted to the side of her head in a gelatinous clump. A mouth full of razor-sharp teeth grinned at him from a face that no longer had lips. Her left arm hung lifeless from her shoulder, while she clutched something against her chest with her right hand. Her eyes, undamaged despite the surrounding ruin of her face, looked at him with completely white, pearlescent irises, before the pupils seemed to suddenly expand to envelop them in blackness.

He fought the urge to run. Doing so would only ignite her predatory instinct, and like a vicious dog she’d attack.

Her eyes appeared to move down toward her badly damaged body before she turned her gaze back toward the young man. She coughed, spitting filthy water from her undead lungs before she was able to take a breath. The expression on her burned face was difficult to read, but she seemed to be crying. She stared up at him and was nearly unintelligible when she spoke. “Why…” she coughed some more and looked at him again. “Why can’t I die?”
